Our Core Programming Areas
Interested in any of these programs for your children? Fill out a membership application and connect your child with the Clubs to join in the fun. If you have skills in any of these areas or other ideas for programming, we'd love to have you connect with us as a volunteer. We frequently need sponsors to support these programs financially, as well.
Education and Careers
These programs help youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement. Power Hour (homework help), Project Learn, inSTEMaccess (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math classes including Khan Academy, Arduino, Rover Team, MindCraft EDU) and Job Readiness programs get kids thinking critically and purposefully.
Character & Leadership Programs
The main thrust of these programs is to help youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process. They also provide opportunities for planning, decision making, contributing to the Club and community and celebrating our national heritage. Torch Club, Keystone, Junior Staff and The Social Action Project all help members achieve a sense of community and their place in it.
Health & Life Skills
These initiatives develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults. SMART Moves (Skills, Mastery and Resistance Training), Healthy Habits and Netsmartz get kids on track to make good choices for their future.
The Arts Programs
Programs in this core area enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing. Fiber Arts, Salida Circus and the National Fine Art Exhibit allow kids to explore and foster their creativity.
Sports, Fitness and Recreation
These Club programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills. Spark, pickleball, floor hockey, basketball and Run For Your Life all keep kids moving in the right direction while they learn good sportsmanship.
These initiatives focus on meeting the significant and specific needs identified within the Boys and Girls Clubs. Their broad scope complements several or all of our core program areas. Field Trips, healthy snacks and inter-Club endeavors all connect our kids with their world in ways that give them a boost for a lifetime.
