JOIN OUR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

As economic conditions have declined, families rely more and more on services provided by the Boys and Girls Clubs while they are working to try and make ends meet.  A recent article indicates that it costs $70,000 a year to incarcerate a prisoner, but only $1,000 a year to support a young person at a Boys and Girls Club to help prevent  problems.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS make a difference in the lives of youths in the community by offering a positive place where youth feel safe and secure, both physically and emotionally, where they can experience positive growth, work toward academic success, gain appreciation of others, have fun, and develop into the leaders of the future.  In our community over 700 youth members attend The Club which is open 50 weeks a year.

You are invited to invest in Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaffee County ONLINE  or by mailing a check to BGCCC, Box 1430-w, Salida, CO 81201.

Volunteering

Each year, many volunteers provide essential help to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaffee County by mentoring Club members, helping with programs, volunteering on the board, assisting with special events, or providing administrative support.

Volunteers are the backbone of most non-profits. Our organization is no exception. Without a wide range of volunteers, we would be unable to serve the youth of our county in the myriad of valuable ways we do. Typically, volunteers fall under one or more of the categories below:

The Board of Directors is composed of people in the county that work to support the Club  through fundraising, marketing, and helping the Club grow in terms of sustainability and programming.  We REALLY need folks of various ages and expertise (legal, financial, systems, data control, sales, etc.) to help with our growing organization.  You just need to be willing to give an average of 10 hours a month.  It feels GREAT to know you are doing something to help so many kids!

Program Volunteers work with young people in our Clubs. The possibilities are endless! All Club Program Volunteers will be asked to:

• Attend a comprehensive, 6-hour volunteer orientation and training
• Pass a background check to ensure volunteer suitability
• Work in our Clubs a minimum of two hours per week.

Expert Volunteers offer their professional expertise to our programs and Club. For example, someone who volunteers their time with the historical society may create and present a program for our youth. Or perhaps, someone who possesses expertise in computer technology, knitting, art, etc. will help teach a class. Whatever your expertise, you can contribute to our organization!

Administrative Volunteers help out with clerical or administrative tasks, like mailings, filing or website maintenance. These volunteers still need to pass a background check and attend a volunteer orientation and training.

Special Event Volunteers help set up and staff fundraising events throughout the year. Helping with a special event is an excellent way to get involved if you cannot commit to an ongoing volunteer project.

One Day Event Volunteers assist in a variety of ways. Typically, they do not work with our children and youth. Rather, they ask the Club staff what the Club needs - e.g., painting, cleaning, cooking, serving, etc. - and then complete the tasks.
